Psychedelics and Hypnosis

A four-week online reading and discussion group for curious minds

Early bird registration ends 22 June 2026

Psychedelics and hypnosis have more in common than you might realise.

  • Both alter ordinary consciousness.

  • Both are sensitive to suggestion and mindset — and deepen within a therapeutic space.

  • Both have been marginalised by mainstream culture and are now returning to awareness, supported by contemporary research and practice.

This facilitated online container brings the fields of psychedelics and hypnosis together to explore their similarities and appreciate their differences.

Over four weeks, we’ll explore where these states converge, what each illuminates about the other, and what that means for practice, integration, and our understanding of the unconscious.

What this is

An online reading and discussion group for people who want to reflect on altered states, transformative experiences, and the evidence base for the use of psychedelics and hypnosis within therapeutic spaces. Together, we’ll move through the history, the science, and the clinical theory.

Each week’s two-hour session includes a grounding exercise, a short didactic presentation, and a facilitated discussion around a curated reading.

Who it’s for

  • You might be a therapist, a trainee, or a professional working within or adjacent to hypnotherapy or the psychedelic space.

  • You might be someone with personal experience of non-ordinary states who wants to go deeper with your learning.

No prior qualifications are necessary. Comfort with reading academic papers and essays will help you get the most from the group.

What we’ll cover

We’ll explore topics including: the history and neurophenomenology of psychedelics and hypnosis, therapeutic mechanisms of change, unconscious processes, and ego dissolution. We’ll look at past and contemporary research.

About your facilitator

I’m Francesca Sciandra, an integrative therapist and hypnotherapy supervisor with advanced training in hypnotherapy, hypno-psychotherapy, and psychedelic-assisted therapy. In addition to my therapeutic work with individuals and couples, I provide psychedelic integration support and am currently completing a psychotherapy dissertation investigating hypno-psychotherapy for extended difficulties following naturalistic psychedelic experiences. This programme is informed by my work and draws on past and contemporary perspectives on both psychedelics and hypnosis.

FAQs

About the program

  • Is this a training in hypnosis or psychedelic-assisted therapy?
This is an educational reading and discussion group. It is not a certification program or a pathway to practice.

  • Will there be any experiential work, such as inductions or guided integration sessions?
The program is educational rather than therapeutic, and the sessions are not a substitute for integration support or therapy. At the start of each session, there will be a brief grounding exercise to support arrival into the collaborative space. We will not be doing hypnotic or integration work within the sessions. If you’re unsure whether this is a good fit for you, you’re welcome to reach out before registering.

  • How much reading is involved?
Expect one to three papers or book chapters per week, typically one to two hours of reading. Supplementary material will also be provided for those who want to go deeper, but the core reading is designed to be manageable alongside full-time work.

  • Is this CPD-accredited?
Not formally. If you are self-reporting CPD hours, 8 hours of facilitated learning and discussion with associated reading is generally appropriate to log, but please check with your professional body.

  • Will I receive a certificate of attendance at the end of the program?
A certificate of attendance can be provided for those who attend all 4 sessions.

About the group

  • How many people will be in the group?
The group will run with a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 12 participants.

  • Do I need a clinical background?
No, there are no prerequisites to join. That said, the reading will draw substantially from academic literature, so you should feel comfortable engaging with research papers, complex ideas, and theoretical frameworks.

  • Will there be a space for participants to connect between sessions?
An optional Signal group will be available for participants who want to continue the conversation between sessions. Joining is voluntary, and there’s no expectation of engagement outside the Monday sessions.

Practicalities

  • What platform will you use?
Sessions will be held on Zoom. Readings and resources will be shared by email and Google Drive. Links will be sent to registered participants.

  • Will sessions be recorded?
No, sessions will not be recorded. This is a live, participatory group.

  • What happens if I can’t make a particular week?
There is no attendance requirement, but your engagement is encouraged. Sessions are participatory and won’t be recorded. If you anticipate missing more than one session, it’s worth considering whether the timing works for you before committing.

  • What is your refund policy?
A full refund, less a 10% administration fee, is available up to 21 days before the program start date. A 50% refund, less a 10% administration fee, is available up to 14 days before the start date. No refund is available within 7 days of the start date. In the unlikely event that the program does not reach the minimum number or must be cancelled, a full refund will be issued to all registered participants. If you have any questions about this, please get in touch before registering.
