Creativity comes from a mysterious place. It can be studied, demonstrated, and encouraged, but it’s best when it’s lived.

When something hasn’t been done before, there’s no template. We can find inspiration, reference, apprenticeship ~ but the creative act requires reaching into the depths of our being to manifest something that only we can offer.

This program is about finding the courage to align with your creative voice, energy, and spirit. It’s for practicing artists who want to go deeper, and those that hesitate to call themselves artists, yet feel the pull to create. It’s for those willing to wonder ~ What if I looked at the world with new eyes? What if I let myself play? What if I let myself express something in a new way?

Experimental Year gives your practice a year to take root. It is a space to be curious, imperfect, and alive.

The program provides the structure to dive into key aspects of the creative mindset and way of life, extended with depth-oriented explorations. You’ll be invited to connect with the creative unconscious, nurture divergent thinking, use improvisation and play, work with unconventional methods, develop novel ideas, and investigate universal concepts ~ all within the overarching theme of Experimental Practice.

Each of the four modules is built around a central concept. You’ll experience the creative process as a method of connecting with your inner life, engaging with the world, and experimenting with new ways of seeing and doing.

Relate to art making as an experience of being and develop yourself through making.

The Modules

The program is structured around four modules, each lasting three months. Each module centers on a theme an includes live calls, weekly lessons, guided creative exercises.

Instead of focusing on a specific medium, the program uses drawing, painting, photography, and writing as tools for attention, presence, and self-discovery ~ and invites you to bring your own practice.

Modules can be booked as a full year or individually.

Who this is for

The program is a good fit if:

✅ You want to engage in a steady, ongoing creative practice.

✅ You’re interested in art making and creative practice as a way of being.

✅ You feel called to reflection, experimentation, play, and personal growth.

✅ You’re curious about unconventional materials and methods, whatever your level of experience.

✅ You want to connect with others and find a creative community

✅ You’re ready to commit to a full year (or at least three months) of creative work.

When this isn’t right:

❌ You want a step-by-step technical art or drawing course.

Why this matters now

To create is to shape yourself and the world you live in.

An openness to experience. A tendency toward play. The freedom to daydream. These are among the habits of highly creative people.

Art school can nurture technical skills, but it also teaches a way of being in the world: how to look, how to work with uncertainty, how to connect disparate ideas, how to challenge established norms. Experimental Year nurtures these habits and ways of being, and gives you the space, guidance, feedback, and community to practice them.

Technology is a mirror of the society that makes it. What we see in it today asks us what it means to be human, and why making things still matters. What does it mean to be alive, to think, to feel, to create? Those who cultivate their creative capacities will meet this moment with something machines cannot offer.

About Francesca

I’m Francesca, an artist, guide, and educator. My approach draws from my professional and personal study of the arts, psychotherapy, and altered states.

I teach art as a way of bringing what’s beneath the surface into a visible form, and as a way of seeing and relating directly to the world around you. I’ve been teaching and facilitating in the arts since I was a teenager, and I bring curiosity and encouragement into the studio.

FAQs

Why commit to a full year?

A practice changes when it has time to deepen. Four seasons give you the time to engage, follow what interests you, and see your work evolve. When you enroll in the full year program, you’ll receive access to Studio Hours live calls, the Art as Psychological Process seminar, and Deepening workshops.

I have no art making experience. I’m a skilled / trained / working artist. Is this for me?

This program intentionally invites those with a wide range of skills and experiences with a range of mediums. If you feel called, it’s for you.

How is the work reviewed?

The work is not formally assessed. You’ll have a chance to share it with other participants in the WhatsApp community and receive feedback from me on our live call. Anything we discuss is in the spirit of shared process rather than critique.

What if I’m nervous to share my work or creative process?

Sharing is encouraged, but optional. It’s up to you. If you choose to share, the space will be encouraging and supportive.

When are the live sessions?

The dates and times for the live session will be shared soon.

What if I can’t attend the live sessions?

In most cases, calls are recorded, so you can watch in your own time. Participants must join live to have their work discussed.

How much time will I need?

How much time you dedicate is up to you. Plan for at least 2 to 3 hours per week to engage with the material.

What supplies do I need?

You’ll receive a full list of supplies and creative materials, but the basics will do to get started: a sketchbook, a notebook or journal, large sheets of paper, graphite pencils, an eraser, ink, brushes, watercolours, soft charcoal sticks, and a camera phone. In many cases, you’ll choose your own materials, but guidance will be available.

Is this art therapy?

No. This is a creative and educational course, not a therapy space. It’s taught by me in my capacity as an artist and educator.

Do you offer scholarships or reduced fee places?

No. If the fee for this course feels uncomfortable, check out the 28-day short courses, Experimental Drawing and Experimental Photography as a place to start.

Do you offer payment plans?

No, I do not offer payment plans. You may pay for the program per module. Sign up to my newsletter to hear about early bird pricing and special offers.

What is the refund policy?

The program is non-refundable. The full refund policy is here. If you have any questions, please contact me before joining.
