Tips for Starting a Daily Journaling Practice
Writing in my journal each day is a helpful way to reflect on my feelings, behaviours, and habits. Occasionally, people ask me about how to get started with writing each day, so I thought I’d share a few tips.
I’ve used journaling as a tool to go deeper into my creative practice and tear down mental blocks that held me back from realising my dreams. I continue to use journaling to open my imagination and think bigger about what I can accomplish.
I write in my journal nearly every day, and once you get started, you may find yourself making it part of your daily routine, too.
A few tips for keeping a journal:
Get yourself a special journal or notebook and a brand new pen, especially for this course. Keep them in a handy place, such as on your bedside table or in your day bag.
Set a regular time to complete the journal entries each day and keep to a schedule. (I like to journal twice during the day. Once in the morning, and once in the early evening.)
Plan to aside at least 15 minutes to write. You may wish to set a timer so you can lose track of time and not worry about watching the clock.
You may write for longer if you wish and have the time available. If you have limited time, even 5 minutes a day can make a significant impact.
If you stop writing or miss days, feel free just to pick up where you left off.
If (or when) things get challenging, keep going and see what happens.
